What Services does the Student Health and Counseling Center Offer?

Our confidential services include health services, in-person and tele counseling, psychiatric support, as well as accessibility services.

Our goal is to provide short-term assistance to students dealing with personal, educational, and social challenges. Should your child need support, they can schedule an appointment by calling us at 262-595-2366.

How do I talk to my student about reaching out for support?

If you notice changes in your student, it's essential to reassure them  that many students face difficulties while in college and seeking help is a positive step towards managing any of the challenges they encounter.  Encourage them to use some of our self-care resources, raise their hand through the Navigate app, scheduling an appointment with one of our Student Health and Counseling team members or utilizing the virtual counseling resources available through the Care hub by Mantra.

As a parent or guardian, you might be wondering how to recognize if your student is facing challenges. Here are some signs that your student may be experiencing distress:

  • Decline in academic performance
  • Prolonged sadness or tearfulness
  • Changes in weight
  • Differences in personal hygiene
  • Expressing thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • Increased agitation, irritability, or nervousness
  • Unusual behavior or speech

Here are a few ways you can provide support:

  • Listen without judgment. Students often feel pressure and may fear failure.
  • Help them brainstorm solutions based on what has worked for them before.
  • Support them in developing coping strategies and taking positive actions, respecting their autonomy.
  • Encourage a balanced lifestyle, including time for academics, relaxation, exercise, and social activities.
  • Encourage seeking medical or mental health support if needed.
  • Respect their privacy while offering your support in navigating healthcare decisions.
  • Assist them in connecting with resources and encourage them to reach out for help.

Are Services Confidential? Can I be involved?

Services are confidential.  If your student wishes for you to be involved in their treatment, they can authorize us to share specific information with you by signing a written release.  The only exceptions are situations where there is a clear and immediate danger to the student or others, as mandated by law.
