Jeanyi Kim Selected as Howard Brown Visiting Artist-in-Residence at UW-Parkside

Jeanyi KimThe University of Wisconsin-Parkside is excited to welcome Jeanyi Kim as the Howard Brown Artist-in-Residence beginning in April. Ms. Kim will be performing with the Parkside Community Orchestra in its 22nd season under the baton of Professor Alvaro Garcia. Ms. Kim will also perform Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major by Wolfgang Mozart on Saturday, April 26 in the Frances Bedford Concert Hall. Tickets are $10.

Garcia has established a thriving community orchestra program that was enhanced in recent years by a generous gift from Betsy Brown. Thanks to her generosity, Professor Garcia is able to invite professional orchestral musicians to perform with the orchestra and conduct masterclasses for UW-Parkside students and at local high schools.

Ms. Kim is the Associate Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Concertmaster of Milwaukee Musaik (also known as the Milwaukee Chambre Orchestra). A Toronto native, Ms. Kim’s mastery of the violin has brought her to world-renowned concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Barbican Center and the Concertgebouw to perform.

Kim’s recent solo performances include appearances with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, Sunflower Music Festival Orchestra and Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra. She has also played in prominent chamber series that include Frankly Music, Fine Arts at First, and Searl Pickett. She has also been featured on radio broadcasts such as Wisconsin Public Radio, WFMT Chicago, and Kansas Public Radio.

She earned her BA, MM, MMA degrees at Yale University. In addition to being a consummate violinist, Ms. Kim is a dedicated teacher, who frequently teaches in the summer at music festivals, including the Eleazar de Carvalho International Music Festival (Brazil) and the Elm City ChamberFest. Under her guidance, many of her students have gone on to win various prizes and honors. Kim is also a frequent adjudicator of competitions.
