UW-Parkside to Host 34th Annual Aging Well Conference

Sheria Robinson LaneSomers, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Professional and Continuing Education Office is pleased to host the 34th Annual Aging Well Conference on June 6 from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. This event features three experts in the field of aging and will discuss ways to take care of oneself physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Sheria G. Robinson-Lane, PhD, MSN, MHA, RN is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, an Associate Director for the University of Michigan National Clinician Scholars Program, and co-lead of the Research and Education Core of the Michigan Center for Contextual Factors in Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Robinson-Lane is also affiliated with the Michigan Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and the Michigan Center on the Demography of Aging. Dr. Robinson-Lane’s work aims to reduce health disparities, improve health equity, and optimize function for diverse older adults. Her research examines the support systems that promote active community living for older adults.

Amanda MaherDr. Amanda Maher is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan in the Department of Psychiatry. Her research focuses on successful cognitive aging and early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders using a multidisciplinary lens. Dr. Maher is involved with the SuperAging Research Initiative, a multisite, longitudinal research study funded by the NIH that is investigating factors contributing to successful memory aging in adults ages 80 and older. Dr. Maher serves as a co-lead for the SuperAging Research Initiative’s Clinical Core and as the PI for the University of Michigan SuperAging site. Dr. Maher is also a co-investigator at the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.

Cole Thomas is a professional pianist and singer with a knack for storytelling. From his humble beginnings as a small-town church accompanist at age fifteen to his tenure aboard a cruise ship in the piano bar, Cole has amazed audiences with his virtuosic presentation of thousands of songs. He shares his talents and tales with young and old alike as both a regional performer and music educator, performs for residents in assisted living and memory care communities across the Midwest, and manages his own studio of pianists.

Cole ThomasThe conference will also feature morning and afternoon breakout sessions, where attendees can choose from a variety of topics including drug-nutrient depletion, ways to support your brain health, building team trust, and benefits of exercise for seniors.

Individual registration for the conference is $169, and includes up to 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). Early bird pricing of $149 is available until May 6. Group registration options are also available. The conference is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable insights into aging and to learn about resources for the aging community.
