Root River Environmental Education Community Center (REC) Celebrates Opening Day on June 1

RECRacine, Wis.– The Root River Environmental Education Community Center (REC) is thrilled to announce its 2024 season opening on Saturday, June 1. The REC invites the community to celebrate this milestone and discover the wonders of the Root River. Opening day hours are 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Root River Environmental Education Community Center, located at 1301 W 6th Street, Racine, WI.

The REC was founded in 2008 through a dynamic partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and the City of Racine. The REC is dedicated to fostering appreciation, positive interaction, and responsible stewardship of the Root River and its surrounding land (watershed).

Grand Opening Highlights:

  • Crafts and Workshops: Join us for hands-on crafts and engaging environmental workshops. Learn about local ecosystems, wildlife, and sustainable practices.
  • Raffles and Giveaways: Exciting prizes await! Enter our raffles and silent auctions for a chance to win outdoor gear, REC memberships, and more.
  • Kayak and Canoe Rentals: Explore the scenic Root River firsthand. Rentals will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Food Truck Delights: Enjoy delicious food from our featured food truck.

The REC serves as a hub for local residents, families, students, and youth groups while providing educational and recreational opportunities that connect people with nature. From kayak and canoe rentals during the summer season to environmental education workshops, the REC offers a diverse range of activities for all ages.
