Outstanding Community Partnership Award to recognize the work of UW-Parkside students and community for collaborative efforts

Community Partnership Celebration BannerSomers, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Parkside will host a Community Partnership Celebration on Friday, April 11, from 8:30 – 11 a.m. in the UW-Parkside Student Center Ballroom. The event recognizes community-based learning partnerships and encourages connections between UW-Parkside faculty, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners for future projects.

This year’s Outstanding Community Partnership Award will be given to the Jonathan Delagrave Youth Development and Care Center of Racine County and students in Dr. Aubri McDonald’s CRMJ 365 Race, Crime, Law course. Since the Fall of 2021, community-based learning students in Dr. McDonald’s course have partnered with Superintendent Tony Chavez and the Youth Development and Care Center (YDCC) in Racine County as they prepare to transition to a new facility set to open in 2025. CBL students employed a rehabilitative and trauma-informed framework to explore topics guided by YDCC’s mission and vision for the new facility – To transform youth justice, strengthen support for the youth, and keep youth out of adult corrections.

In addition to awards and networking, the event also features a keynote address titled “Social Marketing: Influencing Behaviors for Good” by Markus Brauer from Badger Talks. Brauer is a professor in the Department of Psychology and in the Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Born and raised in Germany, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1994.

Brauer worked for 17 years as a research scientist at the French National Centre for Scientific Research. He joined the University of Wisconsin in 2011. As a social psychologist, Brauer studies the social aspects of human cognition and behavior. He develops and tests interventions aimed at changing people’s behaviors in a variety of domains, such as diversity, energy consumption, and workplace behaviors. He is the author of more than 100 scientific articles and chapters, has obtained numerous grants, and is a member of the editorial board of the top scientific journals in his field.

The Community Partnership Celebration is free to local nonprofits and community partners through generous sponsorships by Educators Credit Union, A&O Certified Public Accountants and Len Iaquinta’s Excellence in Communications, Inc.
