Position Title: Custodian
Employment Type: Full time, University Staff, Non-exempt
Reports To: The Custodial Services Supervisor
Pay: $17.00 per hour
Position: 1st shift, Monday – Friday, 5am – 1:30pm
The custodian cleans facilities, removes waste and recycling, and monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours. Ensures cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in assigned areas.

Job responsibilities include:
- Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
- Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
- Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
- Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
- Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
Qualifications
This is an entry level position. Preferred qualifications include:
- Education - H.S. Diploma
- Demonstrated experience with basic cleaning and disinfecting best practices
- Demonstrated experience with the use of custodial cleaning equipment
- Demonstrated experience with the use of snow removal equipment
Physical Demands of the Job:
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods (up to 8 hours or more).
- Capability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, and climb ladders or stairs as needed.
- Strength to push or pull equipment, carts, or furniture weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to operate cleaning tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Tolerance for working in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to dust, odors, chemicals, and temperature extremes.
- Capacity to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and attention to detail, such as scrubbing, wiping, or assembling small components.
- Ability to maintain a steady work pace while performing physically demanding tasks.
- Visual acuity to detect cleanliness and safety hazards in workspaces.
