Position Title: Academic and Career Advisor

Employment Type: Full-time, exempt, Non-Instructional Academic Staff

Reports To: The Academic and Career Advisor will report to Assistant Director of Academic Advising

Pay Range: Starting at $40,000

Academic and Career Advisors provide high quality academic advising and career development assistance to UW-Parkside students, transfer students, and prospective students. Academic and Career Advisors assist students in transitioning to the University, assess academic skills, explore academic and career options, and partner with advisees to develop individualized plans for academic success. The Academic & Career Advisor partners with specific academic departments, developing collaborative relationships with faculty and staff to best serve students pursuing degrees within an area of responsibility. Academic and Career Advisors are instrumental in fostering an inclusive and engaged campus community in support of academic excellence, student success, retention, and program completion.
 


Essential Job Functions

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
  • Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
  • Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
  • Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
  • Proactively engages students as needed
  • Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will minimally possess the following qualifications:

  1. Minimum bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  2. One or more years of professional or practicum/internship experience in advising, teaching, counseling or related field.
