Kenosha Bus Route Modifications Meeting
Southeast Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) is partnering with the City of Kenosha to explore bus route modifications to improve service. If you would like to provide input regarding Kenosha bus transit options for UW-Parkside students and employees, please join a meeting with UW-Parkside students on Monday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. in Molinaro D101.
If you are not able to attend, you can learn more about the project at the SEWRPC website and share your thoughts via email at sustainability@uwp.edu by Nov. 22. We will send collected feedback to the SEWRPC study coordinators.
For UW-Parkside students, having reliable transportation can be the difference between taking a class or having to drop it. If students have to own a car to get to campus, the selling point of having one of the lowest tuition rates in the UW system can be quickly negated by car ownership costs.
Key transportation facts:
Approximately 30% of Americans do not drive, including the elderly, children, non-car owners, and those with disabilities.
In 2023, the average cost of owning a new car was $12,000, which can significantly burden lower-income households.
The transportation sector contributes about 28% of carbon dioxide emissions in developed countries.
These statistics highlight transportation as both an environmental and equity issue. Communities are increasingly recognizing the importance of alternatives to automobile transportation for improving air quality and local economies.
