Employee classification
LIMITED, FACULTY & ACADEMIC STAFF
Employees who are engaged in teaching, university administration, and/or professional services related to instruction and research which include permanent and short-term executives, deans and directors, faculty, academic staff, and student assistants.
Also includes employees with limited appointments. These are appointments to administrative positions that serve at the pleasure of the Chancellor who is the appointing authority, and are subject to the provisions in the state statutes, administrative code and system unclassified personnel guidelines.
International Faculty or Academic Staff
UNIVERSITY STAFF
These positions are varied and duties include, but are not limited to, administrative support, information technology, accounting, engineering, in addition to custodial, food service, and crafts workers. Most university staff are non-exempt from the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), but some university staff do hold exempt positions. All university staff are paid on the biweekly payroll.
UNIVERSITY STAFF TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT (USTE), FORMERLY LTE
University Staff Temporary Employees are those persons who are appointed to perform a grouping of duties and responsibilities on a non-project basis. USTE positions are temporary in nature and the conditions for these appointments do not provide for attainment of permanent status.
GRADUATE/TEACHING ASSISTANTS
These employees are graduate students who hold a graduate assistant, program assistant, or teaching assistant position. These positions are intended primarily to further the education or training of the student. Graduate assistants are exempt from the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and are paid on the monthly payroll.
