Placement
All NEW Freshman and Transfer students must have a placement/milestone before they can register for math, English or a modern language course. Initial placement will be determined by High School GPA for new freshman and by transferable math and English college credit or college GPA for transfer students. An email will be sent to your Ranger email with your initial placement. Please note: International First Year students are required to take the Placement test before they can register for math or English courses. Please note: International First Year students are required to take the Placement test before they can register for math or English courses.
To place beyond the entry level math or English course, students should submit an ACT or SAT score, a AP/IB score or take the Wisconsin placement exam (WPT).

New freshman, enrolling within a few years of completing high school, will be placed based on their GPA. In many cases, transfer student placement will be determined by math courses taken at their previous institution. Students should review the chart below to determine whether they should submit an ACT or SAT score or take the Math placement exam.

Example Scenarios
Student A has a HS GPA of 2.25, so their initial placement is MATH 100. The student submits ACT results that show their math subscore is 19, their placement would change to MATH102|103|104|111.
Student B has a HS GPA of 2.8, so their initial placement is MATH102|103|104|111. They decide to take the math placement exam and they achieve a MFND score of 570 and a AALG score of 546 and a TAG score of 480, they would place into MATH 114.
Student C has a HS GPA of 3.5, so their initial placement is MATH102|103|104|111. They complete CalculusAB AP course and get a score of 4, their placement would change to MATH 222.
Students interested in improving their placement should consider submitting an ACT or SAT score or taking the Math Placement exam at least 48 hours prior to new student orientation.

Example Scenarios
Student A has a HSGPA below 3.249 so they would be placed in English 100. The student then submits an ACT exam with an English sub-score of 23, then their placement would change to ENGL101.
Student B has a HSGPA of 3.7 so they would be placed into English 101. The student submits an ACT English subscore of 30, then their placement would change to English Exempt.
Students interested in improving their placement should consider submitting an ACT or SAT score or taking the English Placement exam at least 2 weeks prior to new student orientation.

Students interested in taking a world language course who have not taken a college level world language course or an AP/IP world language exam with the required score, should take a world language placement exam.
Accessing Placement Exams
Accessing Placement Exams
All testing is completed online through the UW Center for Placement Testing. UW-Parkside does not offer in-person testing.
Instructions on how to complete placement testing can be found below.
- Navigate to the UW Center for Placement Testing website.
- Click the "Registration Form" link on the website.
- You will be directed to select your institution. Select UW-Parkside and click the "Go" button.
- You will then be directed to login to your Parkside account. This is the same information you use to login to your Ranger Mail. *If you have not activated your account, you will need to do so at this point. Your account activation steps were sent to the email you listed on your application when you applied to the University. If you cannot find this email, please contact us at placement@uwp.edu with your first and last name and date of birth and we can resend this message for you.
- Once you login with your Parkside credentials, you will need to authenticate with Okta. *If you have not set up Okta, you will need to do so at this point. These instructions can also be found in your account activation steps.
- After logging in, you will be taken back to the testing homepage. Click the "Registration Form" link once more to be taken to the registration page.
- Fill out the registration form. Please list your Ranger Mail as your email address so that messages from the UW Center for Placement Testing do not go to your junk/spam folder. The questions that are greyed out at the bottom do not need to be filled out.
- After you submit the registration form you will be emailed a registration code to the email you listed on the form. Check your email to enter the registration code that was sent to you from regionaltesting@exams.wisc.edu. Make sure to check your junk/spam folder if needed.
- After you enter the registration code, you will be taken to the instructions page. Here, it will explain that you will receive an email from candidatesupport@meazurelearning.com with instructions on how to access your placement exams online. This may take up to 30 minutes to receive. Again, make sure to check your junk/spam folder if needed. If you do not receive an email, please reach out to the UW Center for Placement Testing directly at (608) 262-5863. UW-Parkside is NOT able to troubleshoot at this step. *Please note that the instructions webpage will include information on Math test A and Math test B. Parkside does NOT require students to complete a proctored Math test which is Math test B. Please proceed with the instructions below using Math test A.
- The email you receive will have the testing instructions and will include the link to the testing website, your username, and password. You ONLY need the information listed in the "On-Demand, Unproctored" section of the email. Everything else you can disregard.
- Navigate to the testing website using the link in the instructions email and enter the username and password sent in your instruction email.
- You will then see you have access to all five UW System exams. You only need to take the exam that you need for placement.
- You will see there is the option to take a sample test to become familiar with the testing site. This optional to complete.
- You will receive confirmations after each test you complete. Please remember, it does take 48 hours to receive your exam results.
What If I Don't Have Access to a Computer/Internet?
If you do not have access to a home computer or internet please contact placement@uwp.edu or give us a call at (262) 595-2721 and we can set up a time for you to come to campus to complete the placement exam(s) needed.

Getting my results
Scores
Students will receive their scores via email to their Ranger Mail account 48 business hours after the test(s) is completed.

Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB)
Students who have taken Advanced Placement tests or International Baccalaureate exams in math, English or Foreign language should submit official test results. After we receive your official score, we will review and adjust and your course placement as necessary.
