Topic:         KM and the Knowledge Society in Africa: Light at the End of the Tunnel or an On-coming Train?

The notions of KM (knowledge management), a knowledge society, innovation economies as well as knowledge economies have become buzz words and are used interchangeably in literature to reflect the new global technological and economic landscape. The question is however: Where does Africa stand as a knowledge society? Will Africa survive this century and if so what is needed to make this happen?

These are some of the questions that Dr. Britz will address in his talk. The focus will be specific on:

·         The so-called ‘log-on’ effect on Africa

·         Knowledge management in a total different paradigm (in Africa)

·         Knowledge workers (Brain gain or brain drain in Africa)

·         The road ahead

About the Speaker:

 

Johannes Britz, Ph.D. Dean of the School of Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee

 

Johannes is the new dean of the School of Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.  That school currently has an enrollment of more than 600 students at graduate as well as under-graduate levels.

 

Prior to Dr. Britz’s experience at UWM he was professor at the School of Information Technology at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He is also a visiting professor at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dr Britz has an interest in information ethics and more specifically information poverty and social justice. He has published extensively on the topic and has just completed (as co-author) a book on information law and ethics in the South Africa workplace. He serves on a number of national as well as international committees in his field and has published more the 50 research articles in his field of interest.

Pork chop with roasted garlic potatoes with Julienne Italian Medley.
