Locating Journal and Newspaper Articles

Use an index to find citations to journal articles on your topic.

The periodical indexes listed below will help you find citations to journal articles and other publications. You may search for articles by subject headings, keywords, or by author.

Academic Search Premier covers all academic disciplines including criminal justice.

Criminal Justice Abstracts contains indexes and summaries of international journal articles, books, and governmental and non-governmental reports on a wide range of topics in criminal justice including crime trends, crime prevention and deterrence, juvenile delinquency, juvenile justice, police, courts, punishment and sentencing.

SocINDEX with Full Text contains full text for 289 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895, and 75 "priority" coverage journals. This database also includes full text for 547 books and monographs, and full text for 6,711 conference papers.

Ethnic News Watch Full text articles from newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press.

Academic Universe (Lexis Nexis) Full text coverage of 6000 English language sources, including newsletters, magazines, trade journals, wire services, broadcast transcripts (AP, New York Times, CNN), international news sources, business directories, SEC documents, corporate profiles, statutes, federal and state case law, law reviews and state legal materials. Coverage varies.

PsycArticles contains many full text articles relating to theoretical aspects of Criminal Justice (all APA publications)

The Library subscribes to many databases which include large collections of newspaper archives. Instead of listing these databases individually, a list of these collections is available on this Newspaper and News Sources page.

Now that you have a citation to an article, does the Library own the journal?

After you've found a citation to a journal article in which you're interested (if it's not already included in its full text form!), click the FindIt! button to see if the library has the journal in either print or electronic form.

Conversely, you can check the UWP Periodicals List to see if the Library subscribes to the journal in either print or electronic format.

Using Online News Sources

Make sure to check the websites of the major news associations for current and archived articles and videos on your case.

Google News also has an excellent news search engine as well as a news archive search function that allows you to track articles over a historical period of time.
